HELP FOR EX-SOLDIERS.

TWO BILLS PASSED YESTERDAY. Wellington, August 14. In the Legislative Council to-day the War Pensions Amendment Bill was read a third time and passed. Sir Francis Bell moved the second reading of the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Bill and expressed the opinion that the results already obtained were good. Though £27,000,000 had been advanced, the total arrears were only £OOB,OOO. There were 21,000 soldiers settled on the land and only a comparative few had not succeeded. After a short debate the second reading was agreed to. The Bill was then put through all stages and passed.
