USEFUL HINTS.
If the sewing -machine has been used for making white or light-col-oured garments there are often stains left by machine oil. To remove them rub with a cloth dipped in ammonia and then wash with soap and water. The quickest and most laboursaving method of cleaning blinds is to scrub them with finely powdered hath brick. The blinds should be taken down and laid on a bard Hat surface, and scrubbed vigorously with a clean, dry nailbrush. When washing curtains it is a good plan to tack the top and bottom edge together. They are thus more likely to keep in shape. After washing, stretch each curtain on two rods, and they will dry easily and will not need ironing. Pudding cloths, after being used, should be put into hot water with a little soda and allowed to soak for half an hour or more. Then wash and rinse until no trace of the soda remains, and dry in the open air. To dry woollen jumpers it is a good idea to form a hammock of a towel or small sheet slung in a warm but shady place and lay the washed jumper on this in exactly its original form, carefully placing the fullness in the front. This is quite the best way of ensuring a good shape. Blunt scissors can be sharpened with the aid of a bright steel knitting needle. Hold the needle in the left hand and the scissors as if ahout to cut the needle in half. The needle will slide forward until it passes out of the blades. Repent this action several times.
