“SCANDAL.”

There was a fair and most appreciative audience in the Town Hall last night to witness Mr Harry Cohen’s company, headed by Miss Doris Duane, which presented the dramatisation of Cosmo Hamilton’s book, “Scandal.” Both the book and the play have been much talked of, and the portrayal of the work was eagerly looked forward to. The play was most delicately treated, a ".I while the moral of the book needed, of necessity 7, to be •dressed or, if one plays with fire, there is a liability of being scorched. The famous bedroom scene was a very line piece of acting indeed; in which Miss Duane demonstrated her versatility when the scene changed from comedy to tragedy. The bulk of the work fell on her and on Mr Eric Harrison, both of whom gave sterling performances. Probably the best scene was in the last Act, when Miss Duane gave a striking performance when she set out to win the love of her supposed husband. The whole cast was a strong one. and something out of the ordinary for so small a centre. Foxlon was given a try-out by Mr Cohen, but it is questionable whether he will include it in future Williamson productions, as the production last night resulted in a loss. Those who witnessed the play were of the opinion that it was the best dramatic performance which has visited the town.
