ADVANCE LEVIN!

LOAN PROPOSALS CARRIED. £24,000 FOR MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS. £25.000 FOR STREET IMPROVEMENT. Levin, Last Night. By carrying loan proposals aggregating* £49,000 Levin will make a big progressive move in the establishment of up-to-date Municipal buildings, and the laying down of all the leading streets in tarred macadam.

The keenest interest was displayed in the polling with the result that over 90 per cent, of the ratepayers recorded their opinions. The result was an overwhelming majority on both issues.

The voting on the municipal building loan was: —For 371; ngainst 101. On the streets proposal the verdict was even more decisive, the votes being: For 445; against 11G. The projected buildings scheme caused a spirited fight between the i.r.-grossives and the more conservative element. The scheme provides for offices to house the Borough Council, County Council, and Power Board, an up-to-date town hall, and a number of shops and offices, the whole to he built round and in harmony with the present Carnegie Library, thus forming a handsome two-storeyed structure on the corner of Queen and Bath Streets. Prospective clients fertile various shops, offices, and theatre already guarantee a profit on the transaction.
