MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
At the meeting of the Mnnawntn County Council held yesterday, Sir James Wilson presided. There were also present: Crs. J. F. McKelvie, H. E. Fagan, W. S. Penny, 11. 11. Hunt, J. Boyce, and W. E. Barber. CORRESPONDENCE. From flic Sluggish River Drainage Board offering £lO towards repairs to the Council main drain— Engineer and Councillor for flic riding to confer with the representative of the Drainage Board. f roni the Public Works Department stating that £1.023 was avail-
able for reading in Taugimoami township. The (fnjgineer was instructed to furnish an estimate, of the cost of forming the main vends through the township, it being agreed that if there afterwards remained sufficient money, the side roads should be formed. From the Sanson School Committee asking for the use of: the Council’s concrete mixer for which it was prepared to pay. —Granted, provided the mixer was run by the Council’s employees. From the Feilding Boosters’ Club asking the Council’s opinion as to the most suitable day for the halfholiday. Decided to reply that the Council bad no strong opinion on the matter, but was inclined to favour Wednesday as the half-holiday. From flic A .ALP. Society enclosing cheque for £6,300 being amount of Council’s loan. From Messrs Christensen and Stanford, solicitors, claiming £250 .compensation for their client, Mr F. W. Tostein who had lost the sight of bis right eye six years ago as the result of an accident while in the employ of the Council. —Matter to be referred to the insurance company. From M. E. Christensen giving an estimate of £l2O for cleaning drains in Oroun Downs District and stating that the alopayers wished the nmounl to be authorised.—Agreed to. From the Commissioner of; Crown Lands, approving sections 87 and 88 in the Tangimoana township being reserved for recreation purposes. —Received. Prom the State Advances Office, remitting £7OO of fhe Kopane Road Loan and £6OO on account of Workers’ dwellings.—Received. Prom the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, notifying that the Council must bold an election for two represent a t i ves. —Reeci vcd. Prom Air E. R. Saunders asking that the roads on his Glen Oroua property be metalled and offering to make monthly payments in advance.—Air Saunders be informed that the Council will call tenders for the work when formalities were completed. Prom Air P. Robert complaining of damage of cattle to Kellow’s line and to the spread of blackberry. Referred to engineer. Prom Messrs Graham and Reid of Podding, asking for a rebate on additional rates in the estate of the late Mrs Stephen Avery, in view of the fact that probate find only just been granted.—Decided to refuse tins rebate. Prom the Council’s ranger, stating that a herd of cows lie had found wandering at night on the roads near Clydesdale were Government property, fie was informed by the person in charge of! the cattle that the poundage fee would have to he obtained from the Government. Left in the hands of Ihe clerk. Mr Pagan said lie had been asked to refer to a matter which had been the subject of a good deal of rumour in the district. Tl had been to the effect that some poultry yards in the county were a pest. Air (-Toucher had said lie should like the Health officer to make an inspection. The speaker had paid a recent visit to the yards and had found nothing to complain of. It was agreed to ask the Health Inspector to make a visit of inspection to the yards.
