SHORT-LIVED LIBERTY.
ESCAPED PRISONER RECAPTURED. Te Kuiti, Last Night. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day Bart Moore was sentenced to 18 months’ hard labour on a charge ol escaping from the Waikuna Prison Farm near Kaurimu, Wanganui. The prisoner was arrestee] yesterday in a weakened condition at Puketutu.
. While working with a road gang on Thursday last prisoner made an excuse to retire for a few minutes and escaped across country. In a statement to the magistrate lie said he ran away on account of the rough treatment received from the prison officials and was making for Mount Eden Gaol. He was serving a sentence of two years’ imprisonment for theft from a dwelling.
