THE PRICE OF GAS.
INCREASED BY Id PER I,oooft
When the Town Clerk’s annual report was read at last night’s Council meeting, Cr. Coley said he would like to see the gas rate eliminated and the gas works made self-supporting. Why should ratepayers who derived no benefit be called upon to pay for the works, He went on to say that certain consumers outside the borough were getting gas at a cheaper rate than consumers within the borough, yet there was a resolution passed imposing a higher rate in such oases. He wanted to know why the extra charge had not been enforced'? He also suggested that the price of gas he increased by Id per 1,000 c.ft. On the motion of Cr. Walker and Coley the following resolution was carried: That the price of gas be increased to cover the cost of manufacture and that the gas rate be not levied. —Carried. Cr. Coley moved and Cr. Smith seconded that gas supplied to all consumers outside the borough be charged for at the rate of lOd per 1000 c.ft. more than that supplied to consumers within the borough as from the Ist April. —Harried.
