BOWLING.

The heavy rain which fell yesterday morning interfered with I he arrangements for a pairs tournament on the local green. Three pairs from .Shannon put in an appearance in the morning, but owing io there not being sufficient local players present, only friendly games were indulged in before the lunch hour. Tn the afternoon the pairs tournament was proceeded with, ten pairs (including the three from Shannon) indulging in a three round contest of 12 heads. The green was somewhat heavy and more or less erratic as a result of the heavy rain, but nevertheless an enjoyable afternoon’s play was carried through. The contest -was decided on the aggregate points for the three rounds, the scores being as follows: — Ross and Ball, 15, 15, 26—56. Cooper and Blight, 9, 18, 27 —54. Knowles and Spencer, 16, 9,22 — 47. Christie and Thomson, 12, 13, 16 —ll. Barr and Ileasman, 13, 10, 13— 36. Walker and Howe, 12, 14, 9 —35. Simpson and Spring, 13, 12, 7 32. Fred. Whibley and Butt. 6, 12. 9—27. Huntley and Downes 8. 12, 4 24. Pearson and Wilson 5,8, I—l 4. At the close of play, Mr Spencer, on behalf of the Shannon visitors, expressed thanks to the home club for the pleasant day. they had spent and said he hoped that some such tournament could he arranged in the future at Shannon, when lie hoped Foxton players would be present. Mr Christie, president of the home club, said a few words in reply, and cheers were given by both clubs. MANAWATU CENTRE TOURNAMENT. The Manawatu Centre Tournament commenced on Good Friday, and continued on Saturday and yesterday. When play was resumed iyesterday morning, the greens were l found to be decidedly heavy. Rain over night: bad brought up a plentiful crop of worm casts and the green -keepers were early at work with roller and straight edge. Intermittent showers fell during the morning, but play was not suspended.

In the afternoon, under the warm sun, the surface improved rapidly and when play- was suspended for the day the greens were drawing very well.

Nino rounds have been played and 15 rinks have qualified for the semi-iinals, which will he played today: Three rinks have had only one loss each, and eight wins, vi/,.: Tantrum (Terrace End), .Jolly (Palmerston North) and Smart (New Plymouth).
