PRESENTATION.

TO DEPARTING TEACHERS

Last Thursday morning, at the local State school, the teaching staff and the pupils took occasion, during the recess, to farewell Miss* Woodruff-and Mr McDonnell.

Tn the teachers’ office, which had been tastefully decorated, Mr J. Banks (headmaster), in presenting Miss Woodruff with a handsome cake dish and stand as a gift from the staff, said that/he had known her for a very long time and the more he knew of her the better he appreciated her fine qualities. They would be very sorry indeed to lose her, but she would carry away the best wishes of the staff for every happiness in the future. Mr Banks then handed to Mr McDonnell a solid silver match box, presented by Ihe staff and an Onoto fountain pen as a token of esteem from the pupil-teachers. He hoped that Mr McDonnell would have a very good time in Taihape and that he would carry on the good work just the same as lie had done in Foxton.

Miss Williams spoke on behalf of the lady teachers and appreciatively referred to the recipients and spoke of the splendid work they had done.

Mr McDonnell, in a brief reply, acknowleging the gifts said he had been in a position to lniow of the efficient work done by Miss Woodruff in this school. Speaking for himself, he said that circumstances had compelled him to leave Foxton, but he was going very unwillingly. He said, smilingly, he hoped they would have morning tea at the Taihape school —if not, he would certainly try and introduce it. On behalf of Miss Woodruff and himself he thanked them all heartily for their generous gifts and kind remarks.
