CONVEYANCE OF MAILS.

Ft tXTON—PALMERSTON NOKTH SERVICE. In response to representations made by the Foxton Chamber of Commerce to have a more frequent and direct mail service between Palmerston North and Foxton, the secretary of the local Chamber of Commerce has received the following communications from the ChiefPostmaster in regard to the matter: “I beg to refer to your letter of the sth ultimo, and to inform you by direction of the secretary, that it has been decided to arrange for the conveyance of mails on Tuesdays and Thursdays between Palmerston North and Foxton by char-a-banc service. Under this arrangement mails will leave Palmerston North at 9 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. and arrive at Foxton at 10.15 a.m. and 4.45 p.m. In the opposite direction mails will leave Foxton at 11.45 a.m. and 5.30 p.m., arriving at Palmerston North at 1 p.m. and 6.45 p.m. “In the event of a daily train service being resumed the question of discontinuing the char-a-banc service will be considered.” We understand this service will come into operation on Tuesday, April 3rd.
