VALEDICTORY.

The friends of Mr and Mrs L. R. Freeman tendered them a “sendoff” in the Town Hall on Tuesday night. Owing to counter-attrac-tions and separate functions and presentations to the departing guests, the attendance was not large. The Mayor in opening the proceedings expressed his regret at the departure of Mr and Mrs Freeman from Foxton. He referred to Mr Freeman's association with him on the Council and the public ser-

vice he had rendered in this connection. In regard to Mrs Freeman, he paid a tribute to her services in assisting to raise funds for patriotic purposes during the war and her willingness at all times to assist at social functions and other desei'ving objects. He thanked them on behalf of the Foxton public and wished them happiness in their new home. At a later stage Air Hornblow endorsed the Mayor’s remarks. He said Mrs Freeman was always a willing helper at concerts, sometimes at great personal inconven-

ience. Her vocal talent was always appreciated and sought after at local and district concerts. As secretary of the local Racing Club, Mr Freeman had discharged his duties to the utmost satisfaction of the ( lull and visiting sportsmen and the public. Mr and Mrs Freeman were greeted with a hearty round of applause ou rising to acknowledge the good wishes expressed. Air Freeman said lie regretted leaving Foxton and many friends lie and bis wife lmd made during their residence here, but the opportunity to promote his welfare by removal could not be missed. He would be glad to see all Foxton people when visiting Auckland. So far as Airs Freeman was concerned, her services to any deserving object were a labour of love. In resigning from the Racing Club lie was pleased to say that he was leaving it in a very sound financial position and he hoped before long that the club would include a winter meeting on its programme. He wished Foxton and its citizens prosperity in the future. Three cheers were given for the guests with musical honours. During the evening songs were contributed by Alesdames Davey, Hall and Freeman, which were much appreciated. Messrs C. Simmons and H. Frankland officiated as AL’sC. and the dance music was supplied by Airs Dunn and the catering arrangements by Airs Walls.
