FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.

A special general meeting of the above was held in the Town Hall meeting room- last night, to consider the resignations of the president, hon. secretary and hon. treasurer. Dr Rowley was voted to the chair and an apology for absence was received from Mr E. Jackson. The retiring president was pressed to reconsider his resignation but Mr McMurray explained that he desired to be free from the office of president on account of the present position of limited playing space at the club’s courts. Mr McMurray contended.' that gi'ass courts must eventually be laid down in order to meet the pressing need for better opportunities in furthering tennis generally in Foxton, and with this end in view he desired that his resignation should stand.

Air Chas. Simmons was appointed president, Mr E. Jackson hon. secretary, Mr N. Ross assistant secretary, and Mr C. Proctor, hon. treasurer.

A hearty vote of thanks and appreciation was moved to the retiring officers. Mr Ale Murray stated he would still have an interest in the club and tennis generally. Air Frankiand thanked the members for their appreciation, %and stated he would have been pleased to fill the position had he remained in Foxton, and likewise Air Fergie replied briefiy that he would further the interests of the club in any possible way, and it had been a pleasure to assist pending the appointment of a married officer in his department, who was now taking up permanent residence in Foxton. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.

The Levin Club have expressed a wish to play a friendly match on Easter Monday and an announcement will be made later. A social is being tendered members of the club who are leaving Foxton this week. Alembers may obtain further particulars from the secretary. The full handicap list will be available to-morrow for the Ladies’ Rose Bowl and Alen’s Handicap Competitions, and members are urged to play oil' early, for rehandicappiug in the second round.
