RIFLE SHOOTING.
A team from the local rifle club fired a match with teams from five other clubs at Hantere Cross last Saturday, for the Fresh Food and Ice Company’s Cup. Although the weather was fine, the shooting conditions were very had, there being a tricky right rear wind developing into a “fishtail” during the afternoon. The Hantere team was the winner with a total of 654 points—a fine performance under such conditions. The Foxton team again had had luck in the matter of haglire cartridges —one member experieneing four of them successively! The ammunition used was of 1916 make, evidently a “had year.” An eleventh-hour change had to he made in the local team and those who participated, with scores, are as follows: —
