CORRESPONDENCE.
(To The Editor.)
Sir, —As a ratepayer I wish to record my protest through your paper of the Council’s action in committing the future Council in the matter of new Council Chambers, and would like to know tlie reason why the matter is being hurried up on the eve of the Municipal elections. After all this delay in rebuilding it seems to me that before anything is done the ratepayers, who are the most interested in this matter, should he consulted by the calling of a public meeting to express their approval or otherwise. — Yours faithfully, H. HAMER.
Sir, —While I think a change in the Mayoralty would be the means of stirring up fresh interest in the Council and borough matters generally, as would new blood in the Council, it is a pity that one of the Councillors should not seek nomination to the Mayoralty. I could name three Councillors who would, if elected, do justice to the position. I do not say that Mr Hollings would not make a very capable and energetic Mayor, but what is the reason of the Councillors hanging fire? —Yours etc. RATEPAYER.
