PERSONAL.
Mr H. H. Hornblow, who has been appointed stationmaster at Foxton, is at present on the relieving staff at To Kuiti. For many years he was stationed in the Taranaki district. A few weeks ago he entered the ranks of the benedicts. Mr Hornblow saw a good deal of active service in the late war. He is a nephew of Mr Hornblow of Foxton.
Messrs Darcy Ball and Horace Reid left Foxton yesterday morning to compete at the Taihape Athletic sports to-day and Monday next. Mr Darcy Ball is competing in the Sheffield Handicap (120 yards) and Hundred Yards Handicap, and Mr Reid in the Half Mile Handicap and One Mile Handicap* Both young men have been undergoing careful training at the hands of Mr E. Ball, who expects them to give a, good account of themselves in the events in' which they have entered.
■Mr J. W. Fergie, who has officiated as stat'ion'masler at Foxton, since the death of Mr McDonald, has been transferred to the Palmerston station. Since Mr Fergie has been in Foxton he has made many friends who will regret his departure. He has discharged his official duties to Ihe utmost satisfaction of the business and travelling public and has at all limes been courteous and obliging. In private life ho has taken a keen interest in the local tennis club and his enthusiasm has been to the club’s welfare.
