TAURANGA BY-ELECTION.
SIR. JOSEPH WARD TO STAND. Auckland, March 6. Sir Joseph Ward has announced his decision to stand for the Tauranga seat. Before deciding to contest the Tauranga seat Sir Joseph Wal'd communicated with his business interests in the South Island. He has left for Auckland. Strong committees are being formed in this part of the electorate by the Liberal Party. REFORM CANDIDATE OPENS CAMPAIGN. Auckland, March The Tauranga by-election campaign was opened when Mr C. E. MacMillan; the Reform candidate, delivered a speech at Katikati, in the north-west portion of the electorate. There was a large attendance and the candidate was greeted with great enthusiasm. No questions "were asked, and a motion of thanks and confidence was carried amid loud applause. Mr MacMillan, after paying a striking tribute to the late Sir William Herries, outlined the policy of the Government. MR WILFORD’S CONGRATULATIONS. AYellington, Last Night. Mr T. M. Wilford states that he has telegraphed to Sir Joseph Ward, congratulating him on his decision. ‘‘l am ready to assist ‘his candidature in every way possible,” said Mr Wilford, “for there never has been a time when his financial ability was more needed.”
