ALLEGED BRIBERY.

CHARGES AGAINST SIR MAUI POMARE.

Tauranga, March 7. The hearing of the election petition against the return of Sir Maui Pomare for the Western Maori electoral district commenced at the Courthouse here to-day, before Mr Justice Ilosking and Mr Justice Stringer. Mr C. P. Skerrett, K.C., with him Mr P. Levi, of Wellington, appeared for the petitioner, Kanapu Haerehuka, of Wanganui, and Mr M. Myers, K.C., with him Mr 11. F. O’Leary, of Wellington, for respondent. Keepa Ehau of Rotorua, acted as interpreter. Thirteen specific cases of bribery, corruption, and illegal practices are alleged, and irregularities, improprieties, and failures to comply with the Legislature Act in the taking of the poll are also alleged.
