FIRE BRIGADES COMPETITION.
GO BRIGADES COMPETE.
Dunedin, Yesterday. Competitions amongst the firemen from all parts of New Zealand affiliated with the United Fire Brigades’ Association commenced on Saturday morning on the Caledonian ground. Teams from 60 brigades are taking part, and considerable keenness was displayed by the men. The weather was unfavourable during most of the day. The ground was somewhat heavy after the rain, which fell on the previous night. The Hon. Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs, was present and took a keen interest in the feedings. Tlie Hillside Workshops Brigade, which won the principal shields last year, is again well in the lead this year. In the High Pressure Shield competition, the points gained so far are:' Hillside 28, Thames 20, Alexander 12, St. Ivilda 9, Greymouth 8, Addington Railway 7, Waihi 6, Dannevirke 5, Onehunga 4, and Masterton 3.
In the Aggregate Shield Competition points gained so far are: Hillsire 46, Thames 20, Addington 13, Alexander 12, New Brighton 9, St. Ivilda 9, Greymouth 8, Waihi 6, Dannevirke 5, Devonport 4, Greenlane (Auckland) 4, Onehunga 4, Carterton 3, Masterton 3, and Patea 2. Other resudts are. — Two men coupling event —New Brighton, 38sec. 1; Hillside Railway 40 3-5 see., 2; Addington Railway, 42sec. 3. Rescue Event, one man. —Te Kuiti, 27see. 1; Hillside Railway, 28sec. 2; Onehunga 28 3-ssecs 3. Hose and Hydrant.—Hillside Railway 46secs, 1; St. Kilda, 50see. 2, Addington 50 2-ssees 3; Danne\irke 50 3-5 secs 4. Disabled event, five men.—Thames, lmin. 28secs, 1; Hillside, lmin. 26 l-ssees 2; Alexandra, lmin. 27 4-ssecs 3.
