Baron Karl Wilhelm von Kahlden, a German, who was writing an opera when he died, used to eat 12 eggs a day, three at each meal. He never ate meat, fish or vegetables. At the inquest a verdict of death from heart failure due to chronic rheumatism, aggravated by unsuitable diet, was returned.
