A MONTH FOR FALSE PRETENCES.
Dunedin, Last Night
At the Police Court, Roland George Collins, a young man from Auckland, was charged, that, with intent to defraud, he obtained £2 by means of false pretences, viz. by stating he was an employee of the “Auckland Star,” and was short of money and was awaiting remittances "from his employers. He was also charged with obtaining ten shillings. on each of two other occasions by representing that lie was a reporter on the “Otago Daily Times.” Accused pleaded guilty to all the charges. Accused had represented himself as an employee of the “Auckland Star” on holiday. Mr Bartholomew, S.M., said the offence of false pretences was particularly deliberate and sentenced accused to one month’s imprisonment. Accused was also remanded to Auckland in connection with a charge of failing to maintain his wife.
