OBITUARY.
MR ROBERT HAMMOND. The recent death of Mr Robert Hammond, of Rongotea, has removed one of the most widely known figures in the Rangitikei and Manawalu districts. In the early days the late Mr Henry Hammond left Bulls and took his wife and young family, of which Robert was the eldest son, to Sandon. It was there that tlie well-known “Waitohi” estate was acquired and developed, la early manhood lie married Miss Gower, a daughter of Mr -John Gower, who at tfiat time was the manager of the Carnarvon estate. He then took over a portion of his father’s homestead, where he carried on general -farming for. a number of years until his removal to a smaller holding near Rongotea, where he resided until the time of his death at the early age of 58 years. Mr-Ham-mond’s sound knowledge as a judge and valuator of live stock brought his services in great demand throughout the district. For some time past he had suffered with heart trouble. He is survived by an aged mother, his wife and grown-up family of five sons and six daughters. There was a large attendance at bin funeral last Saturday, when bis body was laid at rest in the family plot in the cemetery at Bulls.
