KILLED BY LIGHTNING.
TERRIFIC'STORM AT GUST
Christchurch, Last Night
A terrific thunderstorm swept over Cast this afternoon, and a man named Jack Allison was struck by lightning and killed. lie was employed on Mr H. Tullock’s farm and when struck he was standing on a stack with a fork in his hand. Allison was a returned soldier and a single man. The storm came from the south west and there were deafening peals of thunder and rain came down in sheets and hail showers also intervened, but within half-an-hour the sun was shining brightly again. The residents aver that the ground shook at times as the thunder crashed.
Of the two men who were working with Allison on the stack, one was rendered unconscious for a time and the other is now stiff and sore on the left side.
At the inquest a verdict was returned that deceased was killed by lightning. A doctor said death was instantaneous. The lightning set the stack on fire, but the blaze was soon extinguished.
