MATE LOST OVERBOARD

After being buffeted by tempestuous weather off the New Zealand coast during which the chief officer, Mr Martin Lock, was lost overboard, the American schooner Lotlie Bennct arrived to-day, lumberladen from the Pacific coast. The Lottie Bennet experienced a fail* run across the Pacific and last Eriday land was in sight, blit during the night, tlie wind increased to a gale, with mountainous seas. At an early hour next morning a heavy sea swept the vessel, carrying the mate overboard and injuring one of the crow. The vessel at the time was running before the wind and rescue work was impossible. Several sails were carried away and the anchor got adrift, but was finally made secure, after much difficulty. Next day the sea moderated and port was reached without further incident. The Lottie.. BeunetJ has a cargo of 700,000 ft. of lumber.

postal revenue was £404,720 against £381,118 for the corresponding period of 1921; and the telegraph revenue £395,525 against £305,354, together an increase of £53,771. The money orders issued for thcquarter £1,000,410, against £1,090,014 for 1921, and money orders paid amounted to £919,513 against £1,017,839. In the savings hank the total deposits for'the quarter were £0,342,009, and the withdrawals £0,850,088, or £509,079 in excess of deposits. In 1921 the excess of withdrawals over deposits was £539,021.
