BOWLING.
A match for the Nye Ferns was played on the local green yesterday afternoon, a challenging team skipped by Barr giving the holders a very close finish for possession of the trophies. The following are the details:—
Wihley, Bryant, Nye, Walker (s), holders, 19; Spring, Ball, Adm ore, Barr (s) challengers, 18.
A new rinks contest for the Golder Cup was commenced yesterday, the contesting rinks for first possession of the cup being as follows: Parkin, Healey, Ross, Smith (s); Walton, Thomson, Pearson, Roore (s). The game resulted in a win for Smith by a margin of two points, Smith being one down on the twentieth head, and scoring three on the twenty-first put him two ahead as the victor. The scores were: Smith 25, Roore 23.
If the weather is favourable, the second round of the Triangular Contest will be played on the Shannon green on Wednesday next. This match has been already postponed twice on account of unfavourable weather, and it is to be hoped the elements will be kind on this occasion. The match for the Dixon Cup, to have been played between Feilding (holders) and Shannon on Saturday last had to be postponed on account of unfavourable weather. Foxton has a challenge against the winners of this match, and were to play on Saturday of this week but the date will now be deferred another week. The second round of the Wilford Cup Singles contest will be drawn next week and play will be speeded up in order to complete the finals before the season is too far advanced. /
