HARBOUR BOARD AND RAILWAY DEPARTMENT.
CONFERENCE WITH GENERAL MANAGER AWAITED.
Several matters of importance in respect to the Foxton wharf are awaiting- settlement between the Harbour Board and Railway Department. Some time since the Minister for Railways informed the Board that the General Manager would visit Foxton and confer with the Board, who would be informed of the date of the visit. The General Manager paid the visit, accompanied by another departmental officer but the Board was not acquainted With the fact until after the visit had been made owing to a departmental oversight.
The matter was referred to at Tuesday's meeting of the Board when Mr Tlolben asked the chairman (Mr J. Linklater, M.P.) for some information on the question. The delay of the visit was responsible he said for preventing them from arriving at a satisfactory understanding on the question of railway sorting charges.
Tn reply the chairman said he had wired that day requesting-Mr McVilly to make an early trip to Foxton and acquaint the Board as soon as possible of the date of his arrival.
“Everything is held up, including access to the wharf until Mr McVillv arrives here to confer with us on the matter,” said Mr W. E. Barber. On fhe motion of Mr Holben, it was decided to write to Mr McVilly pointing out that his failure to confer with the Board was holding up its business, and to request him to make an early visit to the port.
