FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.
TREASURER’S ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1922.
The following' is the treasurer’s (Mr AY. E. Barber’s) annual report te be presented at to-day’s meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board:—
“In presenting the annual statlnent on the board’s finances for the year ending December 31st, 1922, it will be noticed that the position of the board in reference to the GENERAL ACCOUNT. “Is not, perhaps as satisfactory as we could wish, the band balance being £461 18s Id, as against £1,515Yt9s 9d for the previous year. “The following are comparative expenses incurred out of the General Account for 1921-1922, the expenses incurred in 1921 being given in parenthesis: — “Harbourmaster and Assistants, £348 13s Id (£344 4s); Kerosene, Benzine and Motor Spirits, £lll 11s 7d (£B7 12s 2d); Maintenance and Repairs, £lOl 8s fid (£lB9 6s); Office Expenses £IOO 8s fid (£127 10s lid); Dredging, £929 18s 7d (£905 5s 4d); Miscellaneous, £3ll 4s lid (£413 13s 7d); Loan (Interest and Sinking fund) £634 16s 9d (£357 17s Pd); Temporary Transfer to Loan Account; £59 2s 9d (£69 ltis 3d); Members Travelling Expenses (£21.). “Tn reference to the extra expenditure under the heading ‘Harbourmaster and Assistants’ together with that under the heading ‘Kerosene Benzine and Motor Spirits when the increase in shipping during the year is taken into consideration you will readily see that the extra expenditure is reasonable. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS are recurring and unavoidable items. The board, however, is fortunate in that, under this head, a decrease is recorded. “The comparison in the office expenses for the two' periods under review indicates careful supervision and economy. DREDGING. “Dredging shows an increase over the prevous year of £24 13s 3d. Until the latest plan of the river and soundings has come to hand the Board has yet to learn the results obtained from such expenditure. “The miscellaneous items need no further comment. INTEREST ON LOAN. “in regard to the interest on Loan and the Sinking Fund the natural tendency-is to expand and the same have increased in proportion to the Loan money uplifted by the Board. According to the comparative list there is an excess of £96 19s over and above that for the previous year. Tn reference to the creation of (he Sinking Final, I am advised by the District Public Trustee that his office still requires (he sum of £9O to make up for short payments in this connection.
“The temporary transfer during the year to Loan Account is less than that for the previous year by £lO 13s (id. COMPARATIVE RECEIPTS. “The comparative list of receipts for 1021-1022 is as follows: 1021 1022.-
Loan A/c. 877 15 3 60 16 3 “The receipts for the year compare very favourably with those for the previous year, and in almost every instance an upward tendency is shown. Under the heading of ‘Rents’ a further sum of £IOO should have been added, but this default will be rectified during the current year. DEPRECIATION. “la reviewing former balancesheets, you will notice that depredation ou certain of the Board’s assets has been overlooked. The Harbours Ad requirements need to be examined in this connection. Until (his point is settled I have held over a statement of Assets and Liabilities which, however, will be ready for the audit Inspector when the matter is reviewed by the Board. TE WIIARANGT. “The seaside endowment continues to bring in to the Board a good deal of revenue which is of material assistance in meeting many obligations. In reference to the rent received from the Sanatorium I may point out that the-decrease this year is accounted for in connection with the old Pilot residence. As set out in the former statement of Assets and Labilities the old Pilot’s residence was valued at £3OO. To-day (lie sale of same has been completed and the purchase money, amounting to £4OO, has been receved.”
