ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

, CAR FALLS INTO A RIVER, Taihape, December 25. Maurice Morgan, of Napier, was killed in a car accident between Taihape and Moawhango on Christmas afternoon. The car went over a steep bank into the river and Mr Morgan—was pinned under the cai, and was drowned. There were five others in the car, which was driven by Air H. E. Davis, manager of the Taihape Freezing Works. The otliers were: Mrs Davis, Airs Alorgan, Mrs Minn, and a small boy. Mr Da vis was thrown on to the bank of the river. Airs Minn was knock ed about and is now in hospital. The' others were not seriously injured. Mr Alorgan’s body has not yet been recovered. The ear is a complete wreck. David Angus, a young settler at Oamaru, aged 28 years, was killed mi Alonday while driving a gig near Papakaio. The deceased accompanied by his brother-in-law, was going to see his wife who was in a maternity home in Oamaru "'hen the horse bolted, throwing the oct ciipants out. Angus was caught between the shaft and body of the gig and was dragged for three miles before the horse was stopped by residents in the vicinity. Angus was found to have expired. Hjs body was terribly mangled. At the inquest held the following day, a verdict of accidental death was returned. DEATH OF ROTORUA RESIDENT. Rotorua, December 26. •James O’Keefe, 66 years of age, and one of the oldest European resi- fH dents of Rotorua, having resided here for over forty years, was found unconscious with liis face covered with ltlood yesterday morning outside the cottage where he lived aJone. He was removed to King George Hospital and died in the evening: - ■ * ; The inquest was held in the afternoon. and a verdict of death from cerebral haemorrhage was returned. Deceased was a carpenter and latterly received remittances from Ireland.
