THE LABOUR PLATFORM.

Wellington, Last Night. The National Executive of the New Zealand Labour Party to-day issued a manifesto to the electors as a declaration of the party’s legislative programme. The manifesto states that the new base towards which the Labour movement in all countries is moving is that of social service. The Labour members in Parliament bad opposed wage reductions; the present immigration policy of the Government; the-en-croachment on national endowment land; increase of Customs duties on ihe nece-saries of life; and the indentured Chinese labour in Samoa. The Labour party also favoured granting full political and civil rights to State employee-. The manifesto sets out the main planks of the party’s platform, including proportional representation, the initiative and the referendum, full political rights to women, opposition to further reduction in wages, provision for the unemployed (the right to work at standard wages), or failing the provision of work, adequate maintenance. Dealing with the housing shortage, establishing a State bank and State shipping line, development of' the railways, highways and hydro-el-ectric power, free education in the widest possible sense, adequate'' pensions for the blind and for widows, the endowment of motherhood,, free medical sendee, and the care of the aged, the young and the sick.
