BOWLING.

The official opening of the Shannon Club’s green took place yesterday afternoon, in perfect weather. The attendance of visiting was a record in the history of the club, and the function was voted a great success. The president (Mr W. MeKegg) welcomed the visitors and expressed pleasure at the large attendance. He also congratulated those l-esponsible for the preparations of the green, which was in very good playing order, and wished those present a pleasant alternoon’s play.-, Miss MeKegg, in the absence of the president’s wife, rolled the fii-st bowl, and the green was declared open. Three rinks journeyed from Foxton, and the following are the Retails of the play in which they took part:— Hook, Shannon, E. Spencer, Gunning (s), (Shannon), 22; J. Thomson, F. McDonald, Huntley, Nye (s) 21. Watt erst on. La France, \Y hibley, Fargher (>) (Shannon), 21; Walton, Smith. Pearon, Christie (s), 12. Goldfinch. A. Boniface, J. Boniface, Trott (s) (Palmerston N.), 33; Parkin. Adams, Downs, F. Wjliibley (s) S. The afternoon tea arrangements under the supervision of the ladies, were excellent, and a supply of good things were provided. R inks were present from Levin, Palmerston N., Manawatu and Foxton. At the close of play, Mr Edwards, of Palmerston N., returned thanks . on behalf of the visitors, and assured members of the Shannon Club of the very pleasant time they had spent. He made special mention of the good offices of the ladies in providing i-efreshments, for whom cheers were given. The visitors expressed their appreciation in three good cheers for the home club. Shannon Club has very good prospects for a most successful season. The president announced the addition of several new players to the membership list and the green even for this early date is- in splendid playing condition. With the neat and convenient pavilion erected prior to last season, the grounds, are well appointed, and the cordial manner of the Shannonites makes this club a popular one among district bowlers.
