ESCAPE FROM THE ICE.

SAFETY OF A SCHOONER. NEW YORK, Sept. 29. Dr Steii'anssoii to-day received a telegram from Nome, stating that the schooner Teddy Bear had arrived there sately, after- fighting through ice in the Arctic, where she was almost helplessly adrifi. The message said the relief expedition had been a failure. Dr. Stellansson says he intends to send another relief expedition, which may be formed next July. The Teddy Bear sighted two ships caught in the ice, which she herself escaped from by the aid of a block and tackle. —A. and N.Z. cable.
