SIDE-SCHOOL AT THE SEASIDE.
At last night’s School Committee meeting a letter was received from ihe Board, stating its intention to establish a side-school at the local seaside. —--
The Chairman said the Beach Committee had ottered the Board the use of the hall for the purpose for a period of three years, rent free. The establishment of a side'chool at the seaside would throw greater responsibility upon the Committee, and it was questionable whether there would be sufficient capitation from the children attending such a school to meet expenses, and the Committee were unible to meet expenditure locally out >f capitaton. Another point was that the Act did not allow the e>■ablislimont of a side-school outside lie school district-, a radius of Tree miles. He was opposed to the establishment, of a side-school, which he thought could not auctioned. If the number of ■ Iren at. the seaside justified a -ehool, then the Board should take the necessary steps to have one established, and not throw the re--ponsibility of a side-school on the t'ommitfee. Personally, he did not think the number of children of re--ident parents justified the Board’s action.
Mr Perreau said the matter had been settled, and the Board had sanctioned a side-school there, and t was only wasting time discussing die matter.
It was decided to consult the Act ni the subject, and to hold the mater over in the meantime.
