POLITICAL

So far the only candidates mentioned for Manawafn at the forthcoming election are Messi’s J. Linklater (Reform), A\ 7 . Murdoch (Lib-eral-Labour), and Mr F. AVhiblev (Labour). There is some talk of Levin bringing out a candidate as an Independent- and a small farmer in Raugiotu district is stated as a probable candidate in the LiberalLabour interest.

The official Reform candidate’s supporters are fairly well organised throughout the electorate with committees in each centre. The Labour Party are working quietly and are also looking to the social side ol things with periodical dances. In a few weeks’ time the candidates will take the platform and champion their respective part} policies and incidentally, express their- views on matters of administration. Of the candidates mentioned, Mr Murdoch will be the most racy speaker and as an old campaigner, will be interesting. Mt Linklater is a man of very different temperament from Mr Murdoch and shrinks from the limelight. He ia “doer” rather than a talker. All Whibley possesses plenty of assurance and can lie relied upon to reiterate the criticisms of his Party leaders.
