PRICE OF SUGAR.

A REDUCTION TO BE MADE. A reduction in the price of sugar was aSinounced in the House of Representatives yesterday by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hyn. E. P. Lee). The Minister said that he had been able to complete arrangements for the supply of sugar at least until the end of the coming jam season. The Government had been fortunate in having affected a purchase of 12,000 tons of sugar when the price was at its lowest. Now it had used this sugar to average the price with the new supply. The consequence was that sugar would cost £26 5s per ton f.o.b. from September 1 in Wellington. That would enable the maximum retail price to be fixed at 3|d per pound from September 7.
