DEFENCE IN THE AIR.
BRITISH MINISTRY’S PLANS.
MANY MACHINES ORDERED. LONDON, Aug. 17. The Daily Mail states that the Air Ministry has placed the first orders to the. value, of £300,000 as part of the scheme for 500 machines for home defence. The machines ordered include a great all-metal machine weighing 15 tons, while another is an improved aerial troop transport to accommodate 25 soldiers with equipment. Others include a huge Multiengined bomber, which can manoeuvre like a small scout metal single-seater, fleeter than anything yet built, and several flying ships capable of flying at high speed and riding rough seas. —United Service.
