OBITUARY.
THOS. HENDERSON, AGED 70 YEARS. The deafli took place at his residence, Ravensworth Place, on Tuesday evening, of Thus. Henderson, aged 70 years. On Monday morning Mr Henderson was about I own and except that he had complained of a pain in the head, appeared in his usual health. On Tuesday morning his daughter (Mrs Cunningham) went to arouse him and found him unconscious. Medical a ill was at once summoned but la never regained consciousness. The cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage and our late fellowtownsman passed through the shadows as he would have wished. His sudden death, however, came as a shock to his family and friends. The late Mr Henderson was bom in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1852, and came to New Zealand 48 years ago. He entered the railway service as ganger in the Otago district shortly after his arrival and continued in the service until he was superannuated abouf nine years ago. Ho was transferred to the Foxton district about 20 years ago. Since retiring from the railway service he took a keen interest in local public affairs, having served as a Borough Councillor, and was for many years a member of the school committee. He was Hie of the foundation members of l lie local Horticultural Society and was treasurer up to the time of his death. Ho was an enthusiastic member of the Bowling Club and a devoted member and office-bearer of the Presbyterian Church and member of he choir. As a townsman, Mr Henderson was held in universal esteem, his genial and generous disposition and uprightness of character were his outstanding characteristics. His wife predeceased him about five years ago. He leaves three sons (Mr T. W. Henderson, of Owha.ogn, William, of Raurimu, Robert of Tuatnpere), three daughters (Mrs Cassidy, of Carterton, Mrs Beer, Mossburn, Airs Cunningham, Foxton) and a number of grand and great-grand children to mourn their loss. Mr Robert Henderson, of Gisborne, and Airs A. McCall, of Taihape, are brother and sister of deceased. The funeral will take place tomorrow. A short service will tbe held in the Presbyterian Church at 12.45, to he conducted by the Rev. Tlios. Hallidav, after which the body will be taken to Palmerston for internment beside that of his late wife.
