BENEFIT CONCERT
The benefit concert;, in aid of a local deserving case, arranged and carried out by the Royal Theatre management on Thursday night, was art unqualified success. The theatre was filled in every part and the concert programme was thoroughly enjoyed, each performer beigg recalled. The effort resulted in over £25 being raised. The programme was as follows: —Overture, “The Broken Melody,” Miss Easton, Masters Small and Graham; Song, “Peggy O’Niel,” Mr Hinds; song, “J’ll Sing to You,” Miss Griffin (who made her debut as a vocalist and was splendidly received); Ycodd song, Master Ha mo, a very clever performance; song, “In the Heart of the City,” Mrs Slade; quartette, Maori Glee Singers; comic song, “Why Don’t You Get a Lady of Your Own?” Mr J. Golder. The accompaniment’s were played by Mrs Barton and Mr Ellis. Mr Hamer thanked all who had assisted in a deserving cause. The screening of a very interesting picture “Mary Regan,” brought to a close one of the most successful concerts held locally. A special word of praise is due to Mr Hamer, for arranging the entertainment and producing it free of cost.
