To make good their loss the presentation of a pipe and tobacco pouch from, the local brethern to Bro. A. Smith D.P. was entrusted to them Prior to closing the Lodge, A.D. Bro. Chaffey asked See. Bro. Roore Rangihenea on behalf of the Lodge to pay a tribute to Bro. A. Smith D.P. for services rendered and also on behalf of G.L. and N 0.3 District to invest the brother with his P.D.P. collar. In doing so the secretary referred to the guest’s unselfishness in anything for the good of the Lodge, the good qualities and untiring energy the departing brother had displayed in the past on behalf of the Lodge. The secretary reminded the brethren that if they displayed the same interest as the guest had done for the Lodge there would be noifear of filling the vacancy.. On behalf of the Lodge the secretary wished Bro. Smith and bis “better half” and the family health and prosperity. In investing Bro. Smith with his P.D.P. collar the secretary exhorted him always to wear and consider it in the character emulated in the “Service” of the Order. Bro. Smith thanked G.L. and N 0.3 District for the very handsome collar, and said he would, in every possible way, guard its honour. He took exception to the manner in which the brethren “bottled'up” all the good he had done for the Lodge and to the manner in which it had been poured out on the eve of his departure. He was pleased to know that the brethren appreciated anything he had done for the Lodge. Every brother could do likewise. The motto of every brother should be: “Lodge first then self after.”

At the social the usual toasts were drunk with honours. The big feature of this gathering was the presentation to the guest of a pipe and tobacco pouch from the local brethren. . On behalf of the donors, Bro. J. W. Murray P.D.P. made the preseniation. The speaker reminded the recipient that it was not the intrinsic value of the «? 'present with which he was to concern himself but it was the sentiment surrounding it which he was more particularly to regard. . - | _ Bro. Smith. D.P, in. thanking Bro. J. W.
