CORONIAL INQUIRY.
The adjourned inquest on the body of an unknown man found in the Manawatu River was continued yesterday. Constable Owen said that all enquiries possible had been made by the police, as far north as Auckland, and as far south as Christchurch, so far. The finding of the body had been published in all the papers jn both Islands. In his opinion the body had been washed in from the sen. It was probably that of some man washed overboard at ska. A verdict was returned that the body of an unknown man was found drowned in the Manawatu River*, on the 18th March.
The body of an unknown man was found above high water mark at Hartley’s Bend on Saturday, 18th March. Deceased was well-dress-ed, and had in his pockets a handkerchief, pocket knife, tobacco and two shillings. His linen collar bore the initials “J..1.A.” There was nothing on the body to give any further clue lo his identification.
