ADVANCE FOXTON!
C. M. ROSS CO’.-. NEW • PREMISES. The business premises of the C. M. Ross Co. in Alain Street are now completed, and are not only an ornament to the business thoroughfare, hut indicate the firm’s faith in Foxton’s future prosperity and importance as a commercial and shopping centre. T!.e firm opened in Foxton on the 26th of October, 1918, in premises next the Post Office. In December of the same year they removed to more central premises, which were destroyed in the disastrous fire of 1920. Despite this set-hack, the firm decided to carry on, and erected temporary premises, purchased the freehold of the site, and erected the present premises. Mr West was responsible for the plans and specifications, and the erection was entrusted to Mr T. W. Huqt, with sub-contractors for windows, plastering, electric lighting and fittings, all of which are on the most modern, principle. Tlio, premises are two-storeyed, and have a frontage of 50ft. by a depth of 80ft., with a separate side entrance for the up-stairs portion, which will he let as offices. The building, which is of brick and plaster, with concrete ground floor, are practically' fire-proof, and the window entrances are a mass of plate glass, which affords an outside display of goods to the public. Special atteption has been .given to light and ventilation. The departments from the main door on the right are haberdashery, gloves, laces, ribbons, hosiery, and fancy, and on the left Manchester and dress departments. To the left is the gent’s department, with separate entrance. At the rear is the showroom, commodious and well-lighted, while the office is centrally situated, and commands a view of the whole of the interior. The premises are lit with electricity throughput, generated by a special plant. The staff, both local and from headquarters, have been busy arranging the stocks in the various departments. In this connection it may he mentioned that there will be no distinction in prices, quality or selection from what obtains at headquarters. The brilliantly illuminated window displays at night have attracted a good deal of interest and favourable comment. The public is cordially invited to make an inspection of the premises and stock, and the local manager, Mr Christie, will be only too pleased to show visitors round. The public will wish the' firm the success which is due to their enterprise.
