FOXTON STATE SCHOOL.
APPOINTMENT OF HEAD TEACHER,
MR. JAMES BANKS SELECTED
A special meeting of the local State School Committee was held this morning, to consider 1 the Board’s recommendation re appointment of a head teacher, vice Mr Furrie, resigned. There were present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Geo. Coley, Jno. Ross, C. Pearson and F. D. Whibley. Apologies for absence were received from the other committeemen.
The Board recommended the appointment of Mr James Banks, headmaster of the Waverley School, out of 21 applicants. After due consideration, the Committee decided to unanimously support the senior inspector and Board’s recommendation, and at the same time to record its keen appreciation of the excellent services rendered by MiBroad (who was among the applicants) for his excellent services as acting head master during Mr Furrie's illness.
The new head master is 49 years og age and married, and has been head teacher of the Waverley School for over 17 years, with an excellent record. He possesses a “C” certificate, and is highest on the grade list of applicants, his grade number being 69. He has been 32 years in the teaching profession, 25 of which have been under the Wanganui Board. He will take up his duties on the first of next month.
