MOTOR ACCIDENT.

LORRY FALLS 200 ft. INTO RIVER. Through the steering gear failing, a motor lorry belonging to Mr J. Howard, of Levin, fell over a bank 200 feet high on Tuesday, into the Ohau River. Mr Howard sprang from the cab as the machine was falling, and landed on the side of the bank unhurt. Mr Howard went for assistance, but meantime his son, aged 14, and a companion, came along and, noticing what had happened, his son attempted to go down to the lorry, fearing that his father was pinned in the wi*eckage. Unfortunately he slipped over the bank and fell to the river-bed, but a moment later his father returned and rescued his son in an unconscious condition, his head being badly cut. He soon recovered, and was motored into town, where he received medical attention, and is now progressing well.
