HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.
The High Commissioner’s cable, dated 17th instant, reads; — Manila market inactive and unchanged. .T grade, August-October shipments, quoted at £37 sellers; arrival and lower grades still unsatisfactory with regard to strength; position in Manila is firmer than London, dealers decline to make offers considering present market prices too low. Output from Ist January to 12th December, 684,000 bales, against 1,023,000 last year. New Zealand market continues dull but somewhat firmer. October-Dccember shipment, higlipoint> quoted sellers £35 10s, fair £33 10s. Considerable quantities Mexican sisal have been sold to Europe during last few months at gradually declining prices. Market steadier now, no further decline taking place during last two weeks. Fresh sisal commands premium over old stock offered by U.S.A. holders. Present quotations fresh current white £3O 10s c.i.f. Europe.
