THE BUTTER COLLAPSE.
QUESTIONS IN THE. HOUSE,
Wellington, Last Night
Replying to Mr G. R. Sykes in the House, of Representatives to-day, Mr Massey said he had noticed with regret the collapse of the butter market. Pressure of business had prevented him from bringing the matter before Cabinet, but he hoped to be in a position to do so in the course of the next few days.
Replying to Mr W. IT. Field, Mr Massey said there were 310,000 boxes of New Zealand butter and 560,000 boxes of Australian butter stored in London. The position was serious, and if any factories could change over from butter to cheese, he advised them to do so. He, however, copld not go into details at present, and he asked members not to press the matter for the next twenty-four hours, by which time he hoped to have a further communication from the High Commissioner. He could promise that the Government would go thoroughly into the whole question.
