THE UNION JACK.
IS IT DOOMED?
London, Dec. 12,
The Daily Mail asks: “Is the Union Jack and the incorporation of the dominion and other flags doomed as the result of the creation of an Irish Free State?” This question the College of Heralds is considering. The paper points out tin t the removal of the Cross of St. Pa - rick after 120 years will transform the appearance of the flag. It will certainly become the flag under which great victories were won in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, but to most minds the sentimental loss will be great. It probably will be found that the deletion will not be absolutely necessary. Other possibe changes include the abolition of the title “United Kingdom,” and the removal of the harp from the Royal Standard and Coat of Arms and the substitution of the Ulster emblems.
