Dunedin, Last Night

An unfortunate sequel to the marriage of a youthful pair occurred at Milton to-night, it appears tlrat a youth named Ashley Perry, aged 10, and a girl named Milligan, aged lG both of them resident at Milton, were married on Tuesday afternoon. The girl had obtained her father’s consent to llie marriage, hut apparently the girl’s mother and brothers were not informed that the marriage was to take place. "To-night one of the brothers, Arthur Milligan, armed with a Winchester repeating rille, loaded with twelve cartridges, went to the residence of Ashley Perry’s uncle and aunt, and fired at Perry, who was standing at the gate, and the bullet struck him on the second linger of the right hand. His screams brought others outside, and Ashley Recdj*scuioi, father of the youth, rushed to close with Milligan, who fired again, the bullet entering Perry senior’s shoulder. Milligan attempted to five further shots, hut the rifle apparently became jammed, and he bolted, hut was subsequently arrested.
