BOWLING.

PROPOSED BANNER. COMPETITION.

The following is an outline of the scheme proposed by Mr D. Fasiter in connection with the inauguration of an inter-club banner competition, which he submitted to the annual meeting of the Manawatu Bowling Centre recently, and which was adopted by the meeting: —To consist of either 2 or 3 rinks from each club (the number to be governed by the playing capacity of the smallest club). Method oj scoring: If a 2-rink competition, 2 points for a win with both rinks, or 1 point for a draw (or 2 points for a win on total points). If 3 rinks, 2 points for a win in majority of rinks, or 1 point for a draw (or two points for a win on total points). If the scoring is on the total points of all games, then in the event of each club making an equal number of points and creating a tie, the last rink to finish must play an extra head to decide it. To minimise the travelling expense and difficulty of getting players away, also to overcome the dual half-holiday, clubs should he formed into two sections as follows: Those on the north and east of Palmerston North with a Palmerston North club to be balloted for Section A. Those on the south and west with two Palmerston North clubs —Section B. This would give the following sections: Section A —Feifiling, Woodville, Dannevirke, Pahiatna, Manawatu. Section B Shannon, Levin, Foxton, Palmerston North, Terrace End. Each club would play every other club in the section; one game to be played each fortnight to find the section winner. The winner of each section would meet in the final. Matches to be drawn up by the centre and clubs notified of their engagement as early as possible. The time limit for each round to he strictly enforced, and games not completed within the stipulated time to go by default. Games to he played on either Wednesdays or Saturdays by mutual agreement to enable clubs to get members together on the halfholiday. Clubs will he responsible for arranging l with, their opponents the particular date on which the match is to be played, within the time allowed by the centre. To stimulate interest in the. competition and also to show howlers the position of the various clubs, arrangements Avill be made with the local newspapers to publish fortnightly a summary of the games played in each section. It is therefore absolutely essential that secretaries post in the result of each game immediately on its conclusion to the centre secretary for recording purposes. To lessen travelling difficulties, sectional games in Section B could he played as under: —First round: Shannon v. Foxton, at Shannon; Levin v. Palmerston North, at Levin; Terrace End a bye. Second round: Shannon v. Palmerston N., at Shannon; Terrace End v. Foxlon, at Foxton; Levin a bye. Third found: Shannon v. Terrace End, at Terrace End; Levin v. Foxton, at Foxton; Palmerston North a bye. Fourth round: Shannon v. Levin, at Levin; Palmerston North v. Terrace .End, at Palmerston NortS; Foxton a bye. Fifth round: Palmerston North v. Foxton, at Palmerston North; Levin v. Terrace End, nf Terrace End; Shannon a bye. This would give Hie following analysis: Shannon would have two games al home and one each at Levin and Terrace End; Foxton two al home and one each at Shannon and Palmerston North; Levin two at home and one each at Foxton and Terrace End; Palmerston North (wo at home and one each at Levin and Shannon; Terrace End two at home and one each at Foxton and Palmerston North.

The Secretary intimates that the lockers in the local pavilion are now supplied with locks, and members wishing to secure private lockers should make immediate application.

Wednesday next is the day appointed for the Bowling Centre gala day at Shannon, when two rinks are expected to visit Shannon from the Foxton Club, two rinks from Palmerston North, Manawatu one. Terrace End two, and Levin one. Local howlers prepared to make the trip are requested to put their names on the notice hoard at the pavilion, in order that suitable arrangements may he made.
