SUPREME COURT.
PALMERSTON SITTINGS,
The evidence in the second trial at ‘the Supreme Court, Palmerston N., yesterday, of Frederick Courtney for the theft of £lO and a pocketbook from L. G. Bismark having been concluded before the luncheon adjournment, His Hopour Mr Justice Reed summed up on the Court resuming in the afternoon. His Honour pointed out in reviewing the statements of that two of them, independently and at different times, had recognised the accused as the man who had taken the pocketbook from the pocket of the witness, Bismarck, who also positively 'identified him as the man with whom lie had had a transaction at that time. There was no suggestion that the witnesses were anything but honest, and their evidence as against the bald denial of the accused that he was not there was entitled to credence.
The jury retired at 2.35 p.m., and returned after an absence ,o£ 30 minutes with a verdict of guilty. Sentence was deferred.
