FOXTON RIFLE CLUB.

A Committee meeting of the aJiove was held on Tuesday night, with an attendance of six members.

On the motion of Messrs Rand jind Walsh, Mr Hoad was directed to vote that the competitions for Shield and Clip this season be held on one range, if possible. Trophy shooting was further postponed until absent members are able to attend. Messrs Hamer and Frankland proposed a sweepstake of 10 shots at 3011 yards, for next Saturday, which was carried. The Secretary was instructed to write the Colonial Ammunition Company, asking their price for the purchase of empty cartridge shells. Last week it was announced that, in accordance with' the Government’s policy of retrenchment, it was decided lo abandon the national rifle meeting (D.R.A.) at Trentham, which, it was stated, cost the Government about, £O,OOO. On Tuesday a deputation representing rifle clubs protested lo (lie Minister of Defence. Mr IT. Marshall considered that the cost of the meeting to the Government was not more than a few hundred pounds. After general discussion, (lie deputation decided to put the case before the Minister of Finance. It is presumed that the district rifle meetings at Wanganui, Bulls, Greylown, etc., will ho held as usual.
