BOWLING.
In referring to the opening of the Levin Club’s green on Monday last, the Chronicle says:—Members were well represented at the official opening of the culb’s green yesterday. The weather conditions militated against the display of any bowling prowess. The president of the club, Mr E. S. Lancaster, in a happy speech, made reference to the pleasant days spent with, and the hospitality shown by the bowling clubs of Foxton, Otaki and Shannon on their opening days. He had looked forward to extending to them a welcome as hearty and spontaneous, but he was sorry to say that the inclemency of the weather had prevented their attendance. After referring to the tine appearance of the club’s grounds, and the improvements effected during the off season, the president conveyed the thanks of the club to Messrs W. Tait, J. Pollock, P. Clements, jnr., and J. Derhum for their gratuitous services on ground improvement. He certainly thought their work merited a special meed of kudos. Mrs Pollock was then called on to throw the jack, and the president declared the green open for the season.
