A MAN MISSING.
IN THE MAKERUA SWAMP.
News reached Palmerston North yesterday that a man named Arthur Bryant, employed at the Miranut (laxmill, had been missing since Tuesday morning, and is presumed to have been drowned, says the Times. 1 Bryant left the mill for the swamp on Tuesday morning, taking with him a bottle of whisky. He was later seen lying in a flaxbusk in the swamp, apparently sleeping. A Hood came- across the swamp later in' the day, and the men were compelled to cease work. When they got out, they noticed that Bryant was missing.
The men returned to the swamp and made a lengthy search, but failed to discover any trace of their comrade. The spot where he had been seen resting was covered with water.
The police have been making a further 'search, but so far without success. The worst fears are entertained for the safety of the man.
